Gummy Smile? You Don't Have to Live with It

Dental Restoration: A Comprehensive Guide

Dental restoration is a process of repairing tooth or structural damage caused by injuries, decay, or wear and tear. Dental restoration procedures not only restore the lost teeth functionality but also improve the aesthetic balance of your face.

1) Fillings

Dental fillings are among the most frequently performed restorative procedures in dentistry. These treatments are commonly employed to restore and repair damaged teeth, ensuring their functionality and longevity. They involve the removal of damaged tooth material and replacing it with a filling material. The filling material can be gold, silver amalgam, or composite resin. Composite resin is the most popular filling material these days because it is tooth-colored and looks natural. It takes less time to get composite resin fillings than other filling materials.

2) Crown

Suppose a tooth is severely damaged or there is a need to restore the size, shape, and strength of the tooth. In that case, a crown is the best option. Crown replacement involves removing the damaged tooth portion, creating space for the crown, and fitting the crown over the tooth. Crowns are also made of various materials like porcelain, metal, or a combination of both.

3) Bridges

Bridges are used to bridge gaps when one or more teeth are absent. A bridge comprises a fake tooth (pontic) placed between the two crowns. The existing teeth or crowns are used to hold the bridge in place. Bridges are also made of various materials like porcelain or ceramic.

4) Implants

Dental implants, meticulously inserted into the jawbone, offer a robust and enduring remedy for tooth loss. These artificial teeth not only provide a durable solution but also contribute to optimal oral health and natural aesthetics. They are an excellent option if you lose your teeth permanently. In the implant procedure, the implant is fixed in the jawbone, and an abutment is attached to the implant. The implant is then covered with a crown, which looks like your natural teeth. Dental implants offer a resilient and enduring solution for restoring your teeth, ensuring long-term durability and functionality.

5) Dentures

Dentures are meticulously crafted prosthetic devices customized to seamlessly replace one or more missing teeth. They offer a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal, ensuring both optimal oral function and a visually pleasing smile. There are two types of dentures available: complete and partial. If you have lost all of your teeth, complete dentures are the optimal choice. But if you have some natural teeth left, then partial dentures can be used to fill in the gaps. Dentures are crafted from a variety of materials, such as acrylic, plastic, and porcelain, offering patients different options to suit their needs.

Dental restoration procedures can improve your facial aesthetics and give back teeth functionality to lead a healthy lifestyle. If you have lost your teeth or have damaged teeth, a visit to your dentist can help you determine the best restoration procedure. With proper care, your restorations will last a long time and keep your smile looking fresh and healthy.

About Me

Gummy Smile? You Don't Have to Live with It

I have always had healthy teeth, but I hated my gums. When I smiled, more gum than tooth showed. No one ever said anything about it to me, but it made me self-conscious. My mother always told me that my gums would stop bothering me when I was older, but unfortunately, they didn't. I began looking into what I could do to finally have a smile I liked showing, and I learned that I could have a procedure that removed my excess gum tissue that was relatively simple. I had it, and I now love to smile! I created this blog to remind other people that they don't have to just simply "live with" teeth or gums they are not happy with. There are so many ways to improve your smile today, and if they make you feel better about yourself, then why not go for it?
